Stars in the Sky Hants is a leisure, dating and friendship network which was set up as non-Profit organisation to respond to the needs of people with learning disabilities. Stars in the Sky Hants is now a registered charity and we are committed to assisting people with learning disabilities have the opportunity to develop and sustain friendships and relationships with people from all over the UK.
We do this by holding up to 10 social events each month and supporting a number of one-to-one dates each week. We hold events at any time of the day on any day on the week; we do not operate as a nine to five service.
We have been running since 2007 and currently have over a 100 members and around 40 new members waiting to be processed. We receive around 7 new completed application forms each week and sign up at least 4 new members per week.
Safety Procedures
Traditionally this has been a difficult area of support for care professionals because of concerns around safety and risk. As an organisation Stars in the Sky has all the relevant safety policies and procedures in place to insure risks are reduced. These include a child protection, vulnerable adult, safety and fun in a safe environment policies which are given to all new members. All of our staff and volunteers are checked by the criminal records bureau to ensure that all risks are minimised.
We meet all new members face to face and as our service is for people with a learning disability, we ask for a reference from a Social worker, Floating Support worker, Doctor or another Professional to verify this.
We are a member led service which means we respond to the needs of our members. The organisation is run by a project manager, two support workers and two committee leaders who are responsible for the day to day running of the service which includes decisions on staffing, spending, forward planning and acceptance of membership.
Stars In The Sky staff will provide an information presentation to any large or small company by the hour. £60 for a small company, £100 for a large company.
We run various workshops throughout the year, aimed at helping our members in various areas of their lives.
